NO GURU CAN TURN THE TIDE FOR BROWN

REPORT after report, unconfirmed, denied but relentlessly persistent, leaks out of Downing Street to describe inter­necine feuding of precisely the type that preceded the coll­apse and electoral defeat of the Major regime.

Or indeed any regime, going back to the Berlin bunker. Officially, all is hunky-dory. Gordon Brown has simply app­ointed a new super-guru from Civvy Street called Stephen Carter.

Who he? Who cares? All the Old Guard in Downing Street, it seems.

Two more outsiders have joined Mr Carter and two of the old stalwarts have quit and walked. End of story? Not quite, for the feuding goes on....

PM 'voted out' of Tussauds place

Madame Tussauds has said it will not have a wax model of Prime Minster Gordon Brown after a public poll voted "overwhelmingly" against the move.

More than 6,300 votes were cast in the week-long poll available both online and at the museum. Madame Tussauds said 84% of votes were against the waxwork.

Madame Tussauds said it approached Mr Brown to sit for the model within six months, but did not get a response.

Downing Street said he had more "important things to worry about".

Of the 6,333 people who voted on whether Mr Brown should be cast in wax before he wins a General Election, 1,025 (16.2%) were in favour while 5,308 (83.8%) were against the proposal......
