EIGHTIES pop star GLORIA ESTEFAN has revealed the CIA tried to recruit her as a spy.
The Cuban-born singer, 52, said she was approached to become an undercover agent because of her language skills.
And she considered saying yes until her MUM talked her out of it.
Gloria was working as an interpreter for customs at Miami airport before she found fame when she was tapped up.
CIA chiefs had been tipped off she could speak Spanish, English and French.
Estefan whose hits included Rhythm Is Gonna Get You and Dr Beat said: They realised I was someone who could pass as a regular person without raising any eyebrow.
So the CIA approached me and wanted me to train in their Atlanta HQ.
But her mother, also Gloria, talked her out of it.
The singers dad Jose Fajardo, once a bodyguard for Cuban president Fulgencio Batista, had been jailed in Cuba during the revolution.
And Gloria Snr felt the stress of working for the US government would be too much for her daughter.
Jose later fled to Florida, where he was granted citizenship and enlisted in the US army to fight in Vietnam.
Grammy-winner Estefan went on to create her group, the Miami Sound Machine, with hubby Emilio Estefan.
She now runs a chain of Cuban-themed restaurants with Emilio in south Florida and is believed to be worth more than £300million.
