(after 44+ minutes)

JW:
Is there some higher creative power out there that you tap into, do you think, or is it all from yourself, or...

Carole King:
No, no it's... I'm a channel. I think people who often do different things... I think athletes can relate to when they... when they're... they've got the right energy. They can do all the things to prepare for it and train... You have to train... and I think the same thing is true of music - you have to work hard to train to be in the right space so that when everything is right in the cosmos you're there to receive it... and I think... that's how it works for me.

JW:
Hem...

Carole King:
I mean, make no mistake, there's a lot of work involved; but the inspiration when it comes is in that manner - it's like you, just sort of see it coming through you and go "Wow! That's pretty cool!"

JW:
Huh... Thank you!

Carole King:
Yes, thank you!

(after 67 minutes 30+ seconds)

JW:
...At a very young age... you seemed to understand adult emotions...

Carole King:
...The earlier songs - the lyrics were written by Gerry, who did understand a lot of things; and then the songs to which I wrote the lyrics, um, I look back and I go: "How did I know that then?"... because maybe it wasn't all me writing those lyrics - again it's that channelness... and I can understand things I mean I've always been a reader...............................
