Erica Goldson does not believe in limitations and sees schools as the institutions where limitations are primarily instilled into young minds. Instead of subscribing to rigid modes of learning, she calls on us to be as malleable and dynamic as the world itself. Erica Goldson has been speaking, writing, and exploring alternative education since her controversial high school graduation speech two years ago. Her speech is not only on YouTube and various sites throughout the web, but it's also published in Pearson's Writing Arguments: 9th Edition textbook. As of now, she is living in Guatemala, working as a volunteer English teacher at an all-girls secretarial skills school. After learning about the need of the people of Lake Atitlan to converse with tourists with limited Spanish, she is also establishing her own English school in hopes to build a better economy.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

The stay-at-home children who are being 'unschooled': Mother lets kids 'teach' themselves...
by Harriet Arkell
Published 9 December 2013
A mother of two who lets her children stay at home says they don't need to go to school because they learn enough 'naturally' by playing computer games and going for walks outside.
Maryanna Jacobs, 32, from Gorebridge, Scotland, is one of a new wave of parents embracing 'unschooling', a new philosophy that rejects traditional, curriculum-based education in favour of letting children choose what they want to do..........
Charlotte Iserbyt is to be greatly commended for having put together the most formidable and practical compilation of documentation describing the "deliberate dumbing down" of American children by their education system. Anyone interested in the truth will be shocked by the way American social engineers have systematically gone about destroying the intellect of millions of American children for the purpose of leading the American people into a socialist world government controlled by behavioral and social scientists.
What is so mind boggling is that all of this is being financed by the American people themselves through their own taxes....

The school that says there's no such thing as a naughty child: Primary bans teachers from raising their voices and refuses to judge its pupils

It sounds like a dream for a wayward child: a school with no punishments or rules, and where no pupil is considered naughty, whatever they do.
But this is the reality of Barrowford primary school in Lancashire, which refuses to 'judge' pupils and bans teaches from raising their voices.
And the children, aged between four and 11, are urged to sort out any disputes between themselves by talking through their feelings using New-Age-style phrases such as 'you have emptied my resilience bucket' instead of getting angry.
Headteacher Rachel Tomlinson admitted her 'sanction-free' approach was ‘extreme’ but insisted it was good for the children.
She told The Mail on Sunday: 'We don't label children naughty at all. It's important that they seem themselves as intrinsically good and build up a positive sense of self.'......
"The Disorder Is In The System, Not The Children" Teacher Quits With Epic Rant
November 1, 2015 by John Vibes
Teacher Wendy Bradshaw pointed out that how the structure of modern schooling is abusive to children, and that children who are labeled as "bad" are many times just having trouble fitting into the rigid structure that is being forced on them.
Her resignation letter can be read below:
"To: The School Board of Polk County, Florida
'I love teaching. I love seeing my students' eyes light up when they grasp a new concept and their bodies straighten with pride and satisfaction when they persevere and accomplish a personal goal. I love watching them practice being good citizens by working with their peers to puzzle out problems, negotiate roles, and share their experiences and understandings of the world. I wanted nothing more than to serve the students of this county, my home, by teaching students and preparing new teachers to teach students well… I not only love teaching, I am excellent at it, even by the flawed metrics used up until this point. Every evaluation I received rated me as highly effective.
Like many other teachers across the nation, I have become more and more disturbed by the misguided reforms taking place which are robbing my students of a developmentally appropriate education. Developmentally appropriate practice is the bedrock upon which early childhood education best practices are based, and has decades of empirical support behind it......
