Why do students struggle to get “voice” into their papers?
Sub-questions:
What constitutes voice?
**What do students see as voice?
**What does a teacher see as voice?
How is voice taught currently?
What other instructional methods are there for “voice”?
What strategies work with boys?
What strategies work with girls?
How do I assess voice?
How can one truly assess voice?
I am beginning to wonder if the burning question is too broad. Maybe I should target something more specific, such as "How can (insert strategy here)improve voice in student writing?" Any suggestions here?
I think the direction you started going in at the bottom of your post will be more specific. How about "What stategies encourage students to use voice in their writing?"
I think Katherine is right, and you were also getting the idea that you need to narrow your focus. Pick your favorite strategy, or one you can find the most research on, and go from there.
You have a lot of questions here--enough for a huge rsearch project. Can you narrow to just one set of questions for this paper? If you are looking for strategies, then your literature review will reveal those, and/but then are you going to apply those strategies in your classroom, and if so, how will you collect data and how will you analyze your findings?
Didn't you read Tom Romano's Crafting Authentic Voice??????
