Happy New Year

by Erik Schobitz

Well, as part of a semi annual tradition, I write to wish all of my former classmates and their families a happy new year and update you on what is happening in my life. I have been deployed to the middle east for two months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. My part is with the Infantry in the desert in an op called "Desert Spring". It is very different than my Pediatric practice back home, but I have learned much and it is a good feeling to support these soldiers - something I may not have fully comprehended just a year and a half ago, before September 2001, but understand now.

I work in a small aid station with a PA and a group of paramedics and care for a Task Force plus many other personell. While I cannot describe any numbers, it suffices to say that there are alot of people who rely on that care. My PA summed it up best calling it "hours and days of sheer boredom interspresed by moments of extreme terror".

I saw our class president today - Jenn, he is well! I don't know if he wants his name or whereabouts on the web, but he was sitting in front of me at a meeting when we realized who the other person was - what a coincidence, hadn't seen eachother since graduation!

Monique and the kids are well, she has started practicing again as a school psychologist in Georgia - where I am currently stationed with the 3rd Infantry Division. Saw Caroline and Raul in Atlanta before I deployed, their daughter Lauren is beautiful, looks great on her Christmas card. Keith and Tara visited also, and Sierra (their daughter) is adoreable and quite precocious. When they left both of my children cried that they wanted to go to Florida too and play.

Well, that about sums it up - will apply for fellowship when I get home and probably stay in the military as after 5 years, I still love what I do. God bless you all and good luck with everything going on in your lives.

Erik
