Project Gamo

Yes, I am a proud owner of quite a few Gamo springers.. Even though Gamo has littered the market with their economy type springers. Apparently they have made a nitch in the market. They may not be a high quality springer but there is hope.

My experience came a year ago when I moved to South Carolina to retire. Noticed allot of ground rats and tree rats all around my property. I was in the process of adding onto the house I bought and had allot of construction material laying around covered up during the late fall and into the winter.

I remember my late brother who lived in a remote area in Oregon had bought a Chinese pellet gun to get rid of the varmints. So I started a search on the Internet. Came across air gun forums right away. I registered and read posts for a couple weeks and tried to understand all the air gun lingo..

Finally I started asking questions. Gamo was the biggest topic on this particular forum. So I took some advice and went out and bought a Gamo Shadow 1000. Brought it home and started eliminating the rats and squirrels. When I would kill 5 rats, 10 more would show up the next week and the same with the squirrels. Was going through allot of pellets at the time and went back to the forum for more knowledge. My next purchase was a Gamo Hunter Royal 1250. When I got it via UPS, I found out that it had way too much power for what I was using it for.. Next was a Gamo CFX Royal .177 which turned out to be allot more accurate than the Gamo Shadow 1000.

Since that point I had met a gentleman named Bob Werner, AKA Charlie Da Tuna.. He is a springer gunsmith and a very very good one at that. So one by one I had him tune, de-bur and replace the Gamo stock triggers with his own triggers. As I got each of the Gamo's back, I could hardly believe the difference in how they performed. I now have 12 Gamo springers now along with several others, Co2's, PCP's and a couple of used air guns I bought off the auctions. All of the springers I have had tuned and trigger mods by CDT.

So the idea of just buying one air gun to kill varmints turned into a fantastic hobby of mine now. I shoot allot of paper and still am active killing varmints.

I have had the opportunity to shoot many other air guns, which cost up to 4 times as much as any of my Gamo springers. Some are of very high quality.

I will finish by saying that Gamo air guns have allot of potential to be very good shooters. I have recently replaced my first Gamo Shadow 1000 stock .177 barrel with a Lothar Walther .20 choked barrel. I always wanted a Beeman R1 or R9 in a .20. Now I think I have found something better..

Even though I own some very nice PCP's and other springers, I always reach for my Gamo's to shoot with most of the time. The challenge of learning the proper technique of holding and shooting a springer is such a personal challenge.

.20 cal.

Hi Gene. 20 caliber is my favorite. That sounds like a interesting gun. Never had a Gamo, but must say they do look nice, especially like the new shotgun. The little Recon doesn't look bad for a starter either.

.20 Gamo

October 27 2006, 9:39 AM

Yes it is a very nice springer. Love shooting it the most. I have always wanted a .20 but the Beeman's are to heavy. This only weighs with scope around 6.5lbs. With it being lite and the trigger mod it is very accurate for me.

For the most part all my Gamo collections has turned out very nice for me. Love shooting my CFX .177 also. With a little extra money spent on the tunes and triggers, these rifles are completly different to shoot than when I first bought and shot them.

Thanks for your reply.

RE becoming a hobby

November 7 2008, 6:09 PM

Hello
I was starting to think that I was having a late in life crisis. My first Gamo was a Shadow, then a Big Cat jumped on my lap and now I have a fixed barrell Gamo CFX the pride of my collection accuracy wise and looks too.
My wife thinks I have lost it as I spend as much as 2 hours a night shooting in my range in my basement. I have about a 40 foot long range and use paper and Gamo rocker/pellet catcher.
The CFX is now scoped and is deadly compared to the other two rifles. It was double the cost of the others but seems worth it as no matter what I push down the barrell it is consistant. ( referring to pellets I use ).
I store my rifles wrapped in silicon wipe cloths and am noticing some stains in the bluing that will not come out. I am not supposed to store in silicone cloth?
I just purchased a Benjamin pumper 392 .22 Calibre. This is a work out to shoot more than my ususal evening 100 rounds.
I just have this one shooting in the zone with minimal effort as far as site adjustments. Is there any after market sites out there for the Benjamin? I am not interested in a scope for this one.
I am looking for my Beeman P-1 to show up and can't wait to start unloading some lead in what I hope to be a better shot as far as pistols go.
Have a great eveing all.

Thank you

Thank you for the advice. I am liking this 392 more and more. I had a seized pivot on the rifle, brand new out of the box. Now it is a lot easier to pump and not the work out I was going through.
I went through 100 rounds last night with little or no fuss. It does not help that I was hurting from too many hours at the Gym.
I will look into the peep site. I found that at 40 feet, ( the legth of my range downstairs) I was getting very accurate groupings.

Break in..

November 8 2008, 7:47 PM

seems after a short break in period they do loosen up a bit. I've had good luck with either site, but have several peeped that seem to shoot a little further with better results.

What part of Michigan? I'm 40 miles south of Toledo.

I live just on the outskirts of Romeo, actually known as Washington Twp. About a 2 hour drive to Toledo.
I was in Perrysburg last week for a business meeting.

I am having trouble navigating the site so far so it takes me a while to get back to where I have made postings.

hi Gene

April 13 2009, 7:20 AM

gamo are very common here in the UK but at the moment i only have one rifle and one pistol

the rifle is (i think) obsolete and i managed to buy one of the last batch to enter this country, it shot awful from new but once i hade put around a tin full of pellets through it the performance is much more stable...
i love this rifle now and would never part with it...

gamo stutzen in .22cal..
[linked image]

the pistol is basically a multi shot bb gun or single shot pellt Co2 gun, not too nice..

regards, john..
