Leaky Benjamin Sheridan 392

I bought a new in the box Benjamin Sheridan 392 last year, and the gun shot great until a couple of months ago. I gave the gun 7 pumps (not including the one I always leave it stored with), and when I pulled the trigger not more than 30 seconds after, nothing. I pumped it up again and could actually hear air hissing out from the opened receiver. I added a few drops of pelgunoil, and the gun stays charged long enough to get a shot off, but is still leaking badly. I've only put about 100 pellets throught the gun, always left it with a pump stored, and the only thing I ever did to it was add 1 drop of pelgunoil out of the box. Is Crosman that shoddy now? Any ideas on the source of the leak?

Most likely the o rings

my Sheridan did the same and it's really a easy fix. Here is the link to the Benjamin manual and parts breakdown. Valve should slide out the back and you can then remove rings and usually find replacements at a hardware store. Good luck.

Hello
I just purchased a new Benjamin pumper and did not know that you should store this with some pressure in the tube. Is this recommended or am I out of here.
Thank you

Hi Rick.

a couple pumps will do the trick. I've done that for years.

thanks

Thanks Dave, I disassembled the gun and found alot of brass shavings stuck to the O rings. I don't know if they were there when the gun was made, or have been accumulating. I've mainly used RWS Superpoint Extras (14.5g) with this gun and have noticed the breech is kind of tough to close, like the pellets are a bit small for the gun...would that be enough to cause wear in the breech and particles of brass to accumulate? Since cleaning the gun yesterday I put 2 pumps in it and fired it this afternoon...holds pressure like new again. Thanks for the help!

Dirt

seems lots of the new guns are really dirty, especially the barrels. You might be wise to clean the barrel if you haven't. One of my newer guns took at least a dozen patches to get it looking decent. Most likely you got the worst of it when you took it apart. The Benjamin Sheridan line is still a good line, but like all things, everything is just a little less than the originals. Here's a few of my Benjamin Sheridans. top down, Silver Streak, S397, S392, GS397 and Silver Streak F9

Question about Ben Sheridan

November 9 2008, 1:35 AM

Does leaving pressure in the gun during storage prolong the seal life? I am just trying to understand the purpose.
Second question about the pumper, should the stock be so hard hitting when pumping? The little bumper is in place but I have been using a coiled up thick cloth to prevent the hard slapping occurring when I pump it up.
I thought about lining the inside of the pump handle with an adhesive foam.
Thank You
