Crosman Model 70

Help! I have a Crossman Model 70 air rifle that has been very seldom used over the past 30 years. Now, when we put a new CO2 cartridge in it, all the air escapes immediately. We replaced the O ring but the air still escapes immediately. My son says some white "packing material" type stuff comes out of near where the O ring is.

Does anyone know what this white stuff is or does anyone know how I can break down the entire mechanism for cleaning, adjustment, etc.?

Thanks, Jim

to the Crosman manuals and schematics. Scroll down to model 70. As far as white substance, don't know what that would be. Use only Crosman Pell oil or non-detergent 30 weight motor oil, sparingly. A drop on the end of the co2 cart/ before putting in the gun helps also.
