According to no less an authority on drag racing than "Big Daddy" Don Garlits the new NHRA nitro rules are a good idea. That is what Don told me this Tuesday while I was visiting him at the museum. He would be the first guy to say if he did not agree with the rules if he thought they were a bad idea! You can bank on that! He liked the idea of less oil downs and a big decrease in engine breakage. Don said the fuel teams are all running something like 89.5 to 89.8 percent nitro, because if you are over 90 percent you're out! He said last year many of the teams were running like 97 percent nitro. The cars performances have not dropped off much, and as teams learn the new setups with the 90 percent rule (clutches, fuel curve, etc.) you will probably see the numbers pick up. The cars still have way more power than they need. The key to a great run is just like before, getting the power to the ground! - Aaron
