AUTOMATIC LIMITATIONS

To port or not to port. That WILL be the question! Just as NHRA and RACERS found out with camshafts, when they opened up the rules to allow ANY duration, ANY overlap, and ANY lobe seperation, bigger was almost NEVER better. The amount of camshaft (duration) that is required, is certainly a function of compression ratio. The less compression, the less duration you better have. The rule change...put most racers back YEARS, by making cams that were BIG, but didn't run. We were fortunate in that respect, because at the time of the change, we were ON OUR WAY DOWN with camshaft duration. 284 to 280 to 276 to 272, and the car got faster each move down. At that time we enjoyed out biggest lead over the pack...with a minimum of 2 tenths and 2 MPH over the closest car. (boy have times changed)

Anyway, the same will hold true for PORTING, becvause the limiting factor will be CAM LIFT, still a controlled substance. The bigger the port, the less the velocity and the higher the cam lift requirements. So in most cases, just a little of this, and a little of that is all that is necessary when dealing with STOCK ELIMINATOR. The Expense comes in THE COVER-UP. I say LET MY PEOPLE GO!
