Track

Mr. Bell is right, you can't build a new facility for a million dollars now days. At least not if you want things like bathrooms, a tower, paved staging lanes, etc. The cost of permits, surveys, inmpact fees, and inspections, etc. on a new drag strip will run you a couple of hundred grand in most places. That is before you start turning dirt. I know of a decent track in the Southeast built about 7 years ago that was built for just under a million and a half, and the man owned the land beforehand. That track might seat 1500 people and is OK for having a points meet or big bracket show, it is no Gainesville Raceway or Texas Motorplex though. A track operator in the midwest recently installed a huge 10,000 seat aluminum grandstand at his track and he told me it worked out to $116 a seat! Do the math Tom, that eats your million (and then some) right there! I have been on the business end of this sport, so I know more of the real numbers than some people. - Aaron
