  • Bracket racing tune up (that basic plan again)

    • Posted Aug 10, 2000 8:12 PM

Though I've been quiet on my 'indexed bracket racing' idea for most of the summer it is not forgotten. I've been busy sorting out my car. I have been keeping track of my runs and comparing the outcomes as if my new plan were in effect. So far the results are very compelling. My intent is not to tip the scales one way or the other but keep things the way they are. So far I'm about even. I've had a few double breakouts go my way that in my new system would have been reversed. Yet I've also gone under while crossing first which would have been wins but obviously were not. There were three rounds of racing that I've had this year that are the reason for my pursuit for this new system. These races focus only on me. Two of which were breakouts. The other was a run that my opponent had .904 light. The first I had no mathematical chance of winning, but did not know till after the race was over. During the race I caught my opponent before the 1000' ft. mark. The fun ended there! I knew I must be on a breakout pass and franticly tried to slow down to no avail. The second race was the same scenario but this time I had the better light AND could have won but did not (bummer). The third race was the least fun of all. While giving a .300 head start AND getting off the line first you would think it would be an easy win. Yet I was having problems and needed to run the car to the 1000' mark for dial in data. I came .020 from running myself under on the brakes! The moral of the story is races like these are the types of races that win or lose are not enjoyable. Ultimately it is the fun of racing that attracts new racers and keeps old ones. My goal is to race from start to finish with an even playing field and no need for games. I know this is a lot to ask. Any one who has read my plan should conclude that I am simply trying to make racing fun for all.
