Weeks passed, as did many cities and many shows. By this time, it was a known fact that Joanna & Glenn were an item. The two were completely inseparable, riding to cities together, and sharing hotel rooms. Joanna had not heard from Chris since that last morning in Tennessee, which had suited her fine. Everything for once was perfect in her life, which made her nervous. Things always had a way of turning bad just as she began to think it all was right.
Joanna and Glenn laid together, lazily wasting away the afternoon in a hotel in Connecticut. Having just finished making love, Glenn held her in his arms, kissing the side of her face.
Joanna closed her eyes and took in the moment. "This is nice." She breathed.
"Mmm hmm." Glenn answered, continuing to caress her face with his lips. "What time is it by the way?"
Joanna turned to the clock. "Oh no! It's quarter of five!" She exclaimed.
"Fuck!" Glenn shouted, jumping out of bed, trying to find something to throw on. He tossed Joanna her clothes. "We got 15 mins to get to the arena! Come on!"
The two scrambled to get things going and grabbing what they needed, took off to the arena. They reached their destination at the nick of time, beating the deadline by 2 mins. Entering the arena, they both tried to act calm and cool, not like they had been running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
"There you guys are! I was wondering what happened to the power couple!" Lita laughed.
Joanna laughed with her. "Shut up and help me with my bags will you?"
Lita grabbed up some of Joanna's stuff as Joanna turned and kissed Glenn goodbye.
"Ok you two! Break it up, you got enough time for that later tonight!" Lita Joked.
Joanna punched Lita in the arm and the two took off down the hall. Glenn smiled at them, and turned to make his way down the hall to the lockerroom.
"Jacobs! Big Man! Hey!"
Glenn looked up to see Hunter running towards him.
"What's up?" Glenn asked.
Hunter paused to catch his breath. "You'd better come with me."
Glenn flashed him a confused look. "What's going on?"
"Just come on will ya?" Hunter yelled, as he practically pulled Glenn down the hall.
---------------
Joanna took to her job quickly. She thought it amazing how much she missed Glenn in such a short period of time. She knew she wanted to have as much free time to spend with him as possible, and worked diligently to make that happen. The divas were extra demanding that night, but Joanna managed to get everything done before showtime. She even had enough time to gab with Carlito before his match. It made her happy to catch up with her friend. The past weeks had been so hectic that they had almost lost touch completely.
When Carlito had to go, Joanna figured that she would go and find Glenn. His match was another 45 mins away and she figured that gave them enough quality time for the moment. She walked towards the lockerroom and met up with Randy Orton, who just walked out.
"Hi, Randy is it? Is Glenn in there?" She asked.
Randy eyed her like she was a peice of meat all for him. "Nah baby, but if you're interested in hooking up later I'll make sure you forget all about him."
Joanna rolled her eyes. "Save it." She said in digust as she walked back down the hall.
Hunter came out of the lockerroom just then. He watched as Joanna walked swiftly down the hall. He turned to Randy. "What's she up to?"
Randy shrugged. "Looking for the Big Red dumbass."
Hunter's eyes grew wide. "Fuck! Shit! Damn it Randy! Why couldn't you stop her!?" He took off down the hall after her.
Randy shook his head and smirked. "Bitch ain't worth it!" He yelled out.
Hunter ran down the hallways, looking for any sign of Joanna. He called out her name, but got no response. finally, almost out of breath, he saw Joanna down a long corridor. She had her hand on the door to the room Glenn was in. Panicking, He waved his arms wildly and yelled out her name. Joanna stopped and looked up. Hunter thought he dodged a major bullet, until he realized that Joanna only thought he was waving at her. She waved back at him and opened the door, walking inside.
"Joanna! No!" Hunter called out, already realizing it was too late. "Fuck!" He screamed, kicking a chair as he stomped back to the lockerroom.
--------------
Hearing Glenn's voice, Joanna opened the door to the room and stepped inside. She figured he was on the phone, so she crept in quietly, turning to shut the door behind her. She was so silent Glenn did not notice her come into the room.
"Hi Glenn!" She called behind her as she twirled around smiling. "I figured since..."
Joanna stopped dead, unable to speak. Standing in front of her was Glenn, standing in the center of the room, holding onto a brunette woman, his face buried in her neck. Once he heard her, he looked up, a horrified look in his eyes. Hunter told him he'd keep Joanna away, but yet there she was, as shocked as he was. He pulled away from the woman, trying to remain calm, but unable to speak. The woman looked up at Glenn, and then turned to Joanna.
"Hello. May I ask who you are?" The woman asked. She was pretty, Light brown hair to her shoulders, older than Joanna, but still attractive.
Joanna stared at her blankly for a moment before she shook herself back to reality. "I..um..I'm Heather. I work for the production crew. I was sent in to tell Mr. Jacobs that his match was pushed up..ten..fifteen minutes." She lied.
"Well Heather, it's very nice to meet you." The woman stuck out her hand. "I'm Maurisa Jacobs...Glenn's wife. I'll make sure he is ready in time for his match. Thank you for the information."
Joanna felt her knees ready to give out. She looked up at Glenn before setting her eyes back on Maurisa. "You..you're welcome Mrs. Jacobs."
Maurisa smiled at her and walked back to Glenn, grabbing his arm and wrapping it around her. "You can see yourself out now Heather." She called out, a hint of irritation in her voice.
Joanna whipped around and pulled the door open, slamming it behind her. She took off running down the hall, thinking that she might be able to outrun the tears that had already began pouring down her face. She pushed past wrestlers and crew, running out of the arena and into her and Glenn's rental car. Grabbing her set of keys from her pocket, she turned the car on and drove off into the night, heading back to her hotel room. She cried silently, clutching her chest when the ache began to set in, and allowing the tears to flow down her face.
Hours later, while Joanna lay in bed, she heard the door to the room open and close. She kept her back to the door so that she would not have to face Glenn right off. She felt him sit down on the bed, and touch her leg gently.
"Jo." He said softly. "Are you alright?"
Joanna felt anger serge through her. Was he stupid? Did he actually think she'd be ok right now? She sat up in bed and glared at him. "What do you think?" She asked, face still stained with tears.
Glenn reached out to stroke her face. "Joanna, listen. I..."
Joanna pushed his hand out of her face and jumped off the bed. "No! You listen!" She yelled. "What the fuck is going on here? Why was your wife there tonight? Why the hell were you all over her?"
Glenn rubbed his hand over his head and said calmly. "She's my wife Joanna. It's not like I was cheating on you with some slut down the street."
Joanna threw her hands up. "So that makes it okay? Is this not the same woman who tossed you out on your ass because she was confused about what she wanted? The same woman that hurt you?"
Glenn sighed, still keeping his cool. "Yes. But that doesn't..."
"Doesn't what?" Joanna interrupted, eyes filled with rage. "Doesn't mean you can't still fuck her while you are supposed to be in love with me?"
Glenn stood up, unable to hold back his anger. "No one said I was fucking her! Why can't you just shut up for two seconds and let me talk to you like a civilized human being?"
Joanna crossed her arms in front of her chest. "And what could you possibly have to say that would make me feel better right now?"
"Nothing. But I still have to tell you this." He answered, defeat in his voice.
Joanna just glared at him. "Nothing? Nothing? Shit Glenn, what is it? For all I know you're going to tell me you're leaving me and going back to her!"
Glenn sat back on the bed and looked down. Joanna watched his face. "Oh my God!" She said quietly, lifting her hand to her mouth. "You are leaving me."
"If there was any other way I'd..." Glenn started.
"Any other way? Any other way?" Joanna screamed, reaching out and slapping him across the face. "How dare you! You lying son of a bitch! You never loved me! I was only a place to go while you waited for your wife to come back for you!"
Glenn shook off the slap and stood up, holding Joanna's wrists so she could not strike him again. "It's not like that Jo!"
Joanna struggled for a moment, then tried to collapse in a heap of tears. Glenn held her still. "Then what is it like, huh Glenn? Why do you want to leave me?" She asked, pain thick in her voice.
"She's pregnant." Glenn answered, releasing his hold on Joanna and turning his back on her.
Joanna stared at him in total disbelief. "Pregnant?" She said quietly. "Who's the father?"
"I am." Glenn answered.
"But...when? How?" Joanna asked, stepping in front of him and searching his face for an answer.
"The night she asked me to leave. We made love."
Joanna felt another tear trickle down her cheek as her mind flashed back to that night. She remembered him telling her what he & his wife did when he was standing by the window of the suite. She shook off the memory and looked up at him. "But why do you have to leave me? Why do you have to go back to her?"
Glenn sighed. "Because 11 years ago I made a vow. I promised to love and honor her for the rest of my life. Even though I have broken part of that, I need to stay true to the rest of it. Especially now that she is having my baby. A child needs a father Joanna."
"But, what part of the vow did you break?" Joanna asked.
"The part where I promised to be faithful and honor her. I don't think I have exactly lived up to that promise." He pulled Joanna close to him, tangled his hands in her hair, leaned down and pressed her face on his. "I still love you." He whispered, pressing his lips against hers.
Joanna pressed her forehead against his, her eyes closed. She wanted to remember everything at that moment. How he felt, how he breathed, how his skin smelled lightly fragranced with cologne. "You need to go." She said softly.
Glenn played with a lock of her hair that had gotten loose in his hands. "I know."
They held each other that way for several more minutes, neither one wanting to let the other go. Finally Glenn pulled away, kissing her cheek and grabbing up his things. Without any other words exchanged, Glenn turned and walked out of the room. Joanna collapsed on the bed. She didn't cry, but she did feel pain, anger and sadness dance throughout her body. She felt weak, tired. The ache in her chest becoming unbearable as her heart slowly broke.
So much had happened to her the last few months. Everything in her life had turned from good to bad, bad to good and back again. Everything had to do with one thing...WWE. sitting herself up on the bed, she felt she knew what she had to do. She reached for the phone and dialed. The phone rang twice before it was answered.
"World Wrestling Entertainment. How my I direct your call?"
"May I please be connected with Mr. McMahon?" Joanna replied. "This is Joanna McCarthy, assistant to the divas." |
