Pima Community College’s Alpha Beta Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two Year College will be sponsoring several presentations and projects in the months of October and November. All of the following events are open to the public:
2006 Honors Satellite Seminar Series – These four presentations are based on the 2006-2008 honors study topic “Gold, Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power”. Each one will be facilitated by a local expert and features a lecture, on video, presented by a renowned speaker followed by open discussion. Admission is free. They will be presented over four evenings at Pima Community College’s Downtown Campus in the Amethyst Room, from 6:00PM to 9:00PM.
Wednesday, October 4th - Seminar 1: Gender and Power in Relationships - features University of Washington Sociology Professor Dr. Pepper Schwartz, an expert on relationships, parenting issues, male/female communication, and personal and family health. It will be facilitated by Pima Community College Psychology professor, Jeanette Frazier.
Thursday, October 26th - Seminar 2: The Iraq War and Its Consequences in the Middle East – features former Chief Spokesperson for the U.S.-led Coalition in Iraq Dan Senor, one of the longest-serving American civilians in the Middle East. It will be facilitated by Pima Community College Political Science professor, Erich Saphir.
Thursday, November 2nd - Seminar 3: Money Talks: Lobbyists and the Power of Money in Washington - features award-winning author and television commentator, Jeffrey Birnbaum, a columnist for the Washington Post, a political analyst for the Fox News Channel, and a contributor to PBS's "Washington Week." It will be facilitated by local lobbyist Art Chaupa.
Thursday, November 30th - Seminar 4: Lessons Learned from My Grandfather – features Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi. It will be facilitated by Pima Community College Humanities professor, David Bishop.

Fall community service projects – Make a difference and learn something in the process by participating in Alpha Beta Chi’s fall community service projects. Anyone can participate, so tell your friends. Here is what we have scheduled so far:
Saturday, October 14th - *** CANCELLED *** Las Madres Project: Border Clean-up – We will meet at First Christian Church at Speedway and Euclid (740 East Speedway Blvd.) at 6:50AM. Saturday, October 28th - Field Trip: Los Reales Landfill & Recycling Center - The meeting place for this event will be 7575 East Speedway Blvd (between Kolb and Pantano). We will be meeting at 7:45AM because the bus will be leaving at 8:00AM. There is a limit of 35 people for this trip, so contact VP of Service Sarah Koltanowski at Sarah3point5@hotmail.com to reserve a seat.
Sunday, November 5th - Las Madres Project: Panel Discussion – We will meet at 1:00PM at East Campus in the Community Room. A number of speakers will be there for discussion of various border issues. For more information, contact VP of Service Sarah Koltanowski at Sarah3point5@hotmail.
