Hmm

If there are others in the game, you can obviously just get back in and your items will still be there. But if you're alone in the game, don't have your stuff on you, and crash, then you're screwed. I guess it's ok to restore your character then, but I wouldn't do it ;)
Still though, I think it's ok to restore your stuff if the game 'ate' it.
