I don't believe the plant has really ever closed. There are actually 2 plants there. The original (Engine Plant #1) has most recently been used to produce Jaguar engines, but obviously isn't necessary anymore. I believe Engine Plant #2 was built sometime in the 80s and I'm not sure what it produces. There is a 3rd part (some sort of assembly maybe) to it in between the two, but I think I heard that it is slated for demo.
I work for a company that does facility design for several major auto manufacturers (as well as chemical plants and refineries) and Ford is one of our clients. Saw a piece of paper on my boss' desk with the blue oval and "CLEVELAND ENGINE PLANT" on it and a general layout of the site. Naturally, I started questioning what we were doing there, and that's all the info I got out of him for now. |
