I would suggest that the 3dg file looks for the pcx file, to place around it...
I had the same probs with C-130 ended up that the name of my pcx file was a letter out in the file name, so it wasnt used hence invisible plane...
Or if you modify the file by converting it to a different file type perhaps you did not save as pcx ??
