More GCI Results

Just an FYI for anyone interested....

Using the same GCI Test missions as before, I changed the flight profile so that I headed for WP3/GPS "SA10 EAST" from the start. I used the "Guns Only" loadout which increased my airspeed to 464 knots @ 60% throttle. WP3 is located in the relative middle of all the EW and SAM sites. Altitude was A9.9.

This time around, in addition to the distance from WP at first launch, I also kept track of total missile launches and missile hits. (Invulnerability was on :))

Table below is -
distance from WP at first launch, total launches, total hits

Flying the mission WITH GCI links:

46.1 10 8
46.0 10 7
46.1 9 6
46.1 9 7

Flying the mission w/o GCI links:

43.1 11 0 (yes zero, no hits at all)
43.1 10 3
34.8 8 7
43.1 7 2

The difference between flight 3 w/o links and flights 1,2 and 4 was the fact that in flight 3 the SAM site "SA10 West" never engaged. All 8 missiles were fired from "SA10 East", which I was flying directly towards. Since the closure was so high, the flight time per missile was shorter, so more were fired and at closer range, thus more hits. I threw out one mission entirely from the w/o GCI results, because not a single SAM site (out of four) engaged me that time!

If SA10 West did engage in the w/o GCI mission, nearly all its missile would miss / detonate after launch.

In the GCI linked mission, SA10 West always engaged, and the bulk of its missiles impacted as well. Most of the misses from the GCI linked mission were a result of closure with the SA10 East site, which would fire right up to the point I was over it. Any missile fired under 4nm range by the site would explode shortly after launch.

I think these results would indicate that the GCI linking not only increases engagement range (per previous results) but also now indicates definite improvements in missile accuracy and probability of engagement by a SAM site.

The missions are still available at http://www.kammak.com/fa18/gcitest.zip if anyone would like to run them on their system. I would love some results from another computer besides mine and Baron Max's! Still trying to determine how much variation exists between systems, due to CPU/memory/unknown differences.

Have a good weekend!
