Just some additions. CAP will alway break down into pairs. If there is more than 2 guys in a CAP flight then they will break into pairs, spread out in 20nm (I think) increments (ie +20, -20, +40, -40) and create X/2 number of CAPs. So when a CAP group comes after you you won't have to worry about large group tactics being used against you (though unexpected guests may show up later on. ).
Fighter Sweeps will stay as a group and so will be able to use larger group tactics. Depending on how long their patrol path is though it may be easier to sneak by them.
CAPs, FS and Alert Aircraft are the first guys I'll look for when a new threat has been spotted.
