This will work, but its not necessary. You can be totally disconnected from the net, go to MULTIPLAYER/TCP-IP/HOST GAME and launch.
The Hyperlobby method does give you ONE CLICK access, though, if you don't mind staying connected and running HL and other internet connection stuff in the background...
