"Separate Hearts" -- critiqued

by

Well here we go again ... you've managed to hit on one of the greatest mysteries, wrapped in one of the greatest emigmas that we've ever faced. Sure, if you listen to the radio, you hear plenty of songs that employ the hook in verse and chorus. Nevertheless, there are a great many publishers I've signed with who refuse to consider any such lyrics -- at least from unknown/unpublished songwriters. If that's a double-standard, it's one that you are going to find yourself forced to live with I'm afraid. At least until your first multi-platinum album.

To avoid the frustrations of wasted time, unspecified rejection and escalating postage bills -- I strongly recommend you ask any publisher or A&R department for their "style sheet" -- which outlines their submission guidelines, before sending a demo of this song off. That is, of course, in the event you decide to keep it as it is currently.
