Whew!

Stan,

This one you have to chew for a while before you can swallow it. Not that it is unclear in its intent, only that it is a view from a mountain higher than most of us ever climb.

I dated a girl for five years, was engaged to her for three days, and then the relationship ended. She went out with 17 guys the next year at the college we both attended. I met and married my wife. By her third broken engagement, I was certainly rooting for the knight who finally came riding in on his white horse to carry her off to his castle. (Curiously, they got married in a medeaval theme resturant in costume--so the white knight stuff isn't that far off.)

Saw her again at our 20 year high school reunion and talked for a little while. Can't say there's any lingering flame there, at least on my end of it. I wish her well, and am happy for that to be so from a distance. Glad I ended up with who I'm with, and she found someone else.

I'm not sure I've ever climbed high enough in such things to take the view expressed in this lyric. Some journeys are less common. This lyric describes one.
