Lucky for me I passed that at age 18 just after Bjorn Borg won his nth Wimbledon title. Then I read a bunch of Herman Hesse which really put my head in a dumpster. Lucky for me I found Ayn Rand next but had to spend the next few years tempering her philosophy.

I actually read this first at JPF, and read Greg's comment, and I agree that meeting someone to "pull your head out of a dumpster" is a bit of "deus ex machina" (now you know why I responded here, look at DJ's lyric and this terms definition ...essentially, you took a "convenient way out" of your dillemna)
He's probably right that you could come to a revelation without love, since it was not lack of love, but lack of direction that put you here.
Still pretty good though.
