I tend to lump the active and alert together, but I will work on Active. Matthew moves from the minute he gets up until bedtime, and gets wound more and more unless we impose some sort of quiet time. He has always had a tendency to be awake during day but sleep at night, though he woke to feed once or twice during the night the first year, but we ended up discovering it was linked to his asthma. Once we got him on better meds, so he ate better during day and wasn't hungry, he slept better. And he was much happier with a good night's sleep too.
The one thing he cannot do well is settle himself down to go to sleep. He tends to get more worked up, and as an infant we used the swing or car. He could go from totally awake to asleep in an instant, we have great pictures of him passing out mid meal in the high chair. It is like he can't sense that he needs to wind down. I think this book will have lots of insight for me in that area.
He moves so much, he exhausts me just to watch him! |
