Can I overwinter perennials in containers?

I have several annuals in containers and love them, especially when they bloom, but the cost is getting very high to buy every spring. Are they any perennials that will do well in containers? If so, how do I keep them over the winter?

A signed copy of my book, "Easy Plant Propagation" is a great gift idea!
