Propagating Figs

A neighbor trimmed his very large fig tree and gave me lots of limbs cut from the tree. What is the best method for propagating them? Can I place them in my Homemade Plant Propagation System now? Is it true that they need to be placed in the refrigerator for several weeks before trying to root them? Can I use brown and green wood? I have them soaking in a large container of water and I am keeping them misted, but please help me know how to root them so I won't lose them.
