Japanese Maple seedlings

I have about 25 Japanese Maple seedlings, all are being kept in pots outside in the shade. They all have leaves that are starting to brown and fall off. We only water if we go a few days without rain....we live in zone 7 and it is HOT right now. I am very new at this...any suggestions?
