Horseradish

Response to horseradish care?

For me, horseradish is an absolutely bullet-proof plant. Here's my Grandmother's way of handling it: 1. Plant it. 2. Forget about it. 3. Harvest it during any month that ends in an 'R'. (Make your prepared horseradish using any of a million recipes on the internet, but be careful and do it outside. The 'horseradish vapors' can be really really hard to be around if you're inside and cooped up! We wash it and then use a food processor to grind it up. Anything will work. Let the grindings stand in clear water until they get as hot as you want it, then add some white vinegaar.) Propagate with any little root pieces left over. Refer to Step 1. above. We usually replant in the fall - when the months end in 'R's.

We love our home made horseradish! Hope you do too.
