I grew up calling it Black Locust- but Black L. has white flowers. I keyed it out once and the book I used said it was either a New Mexico Locust or Arizona Locust-- I can't remember which. It is in the legume family. It makes seed in a small bean pod and is probably easiest to prop. from seed.
