KIlling Tumac (Trees of Paradise) Roots & Sprouts

We built our house about 15 years ago and had a long asphalt driveway put in. They put steralant under the asphalt which is common here in the Northwest. Long before we moved here our neighbor had Tumac trees and they cut them down, let some sprout up etc. In the last 5 years I had one or two sprouts come up through my asphalt, yes it makes a hole that you have to patch the best you can and it doesn't make things look any better. Last year and again this year these are increasing. I currently have six or eight coming through the asphalt. I know some people think these are nice looking trees but to me they are just out of control obnoxius weeds. I need to kill not only the sprouts but the root system completely. I have sprayed the sprouts with Round Up and also Weed Be Gone but that only kills the sprouts. I need something to spray, treat etc. that will work its way through the root system and kill the whole system before I have no aspahlt left. I am currently trying cutting open a thumb size root and inserting water softner salt. Does anyone have any ideas, thoghts etc. This is not only driving me crazy but making my driveway look like.. well making it look very bad. Any help is appreciated.

Jamie
