Just missed!

Returning home from Wiggins yesterday I rounded a curve at about 65 and there were 3 Black Lab puppies about 6 weeks old in the middle of the road. Had to take to the ditch to miss them. They were just sitting there looking dumbfounded. Someone must have just dropped them off.

I can't stand that

I would hate to leave them there but I can't adopt everything. Why can't people just bring them to a shelter where they stand a chance?

Disposable Pets

June 16 2007, 6:42 AM

I get absolutely furious when people dump animals. They can take the trouble to drive to open spaces or to a "nice" neighborhood to dump the animals, but they can't drive to a shelter? I think their punishment should be to drive THEM to the wilderness and dumping them with no food or water.

Early one Sunday morning I was working on the side of my house, unseen from the street. Just as I came around the corner to get something out of the garage, I saw a pickup in the street at the corner and there was a teenaged girl in the truck bed shoving an adolescent dog out of the back. The driver then sped off and the poor puppy ran after the truck. I knew I couldn't catch the truck by the time I went inside to get my keys and got my SUV out of the garage, but I knew I had to go after that puppy. I found him two blocks away and as soon as I opened the passenger door the little guy jumped right in. I asked my neighbor who is a retired veterinarian what would be the best place to take him because Dougan did NOT like this visitor, and he advised that the local shelter in our little town is never full, therefore, unless an animal is very ill or hurt, the lady who runs the shelter has the luxury of keeping them for a long time until they can be adopted.

I saw his picture smiling at me from the shelter's webpage, so I have to hope that he found his forever home.
