| We're still inactively looking for a dog to adopt and a few months ago our son-in-law came across a Chihuahua puppy in need of a home. Unbeknown to us, our daughter squelched the idea that we'd be in the market for a Chihuahua (and she was right -- my next-door neighbors had one when I was a child and that dog was a miserable animal) but decided to take her in.
Daisy is just about the cutest and sweetest dog I've ever come across. She doesn't seem to be particularly bright and doesn't warm up to new-comers easily (she'll forget that she knew you if you go off to the grocery or wherever) but she cracks us up and brings us laughs.
Spike is still somewhat depressed by the addition to the family but we all know that's to be expected. |

... if dated (I think that the only human whom I know with that given name is an Englishwoman in her 90s).
Some years ago, a family member acquired two Maltese puppies, male and female; and named the girl (now about 10 years old, affectionate and cute) 'Daisy'.
When she asked the family for suggestions for naming the male dog, I had to offer 'Gatsby'. She was not amused*; but the choice became moot when she decided to just keep 'Daisy' and found another home for the little boy.
By the bye, RHG used to think that she was the only one goofy enough to refer to her son's adorable basset hound as her "granddog"; but has been encouraged to discover from this forum and other dog-loving circles that she is not alone in that usage.
[* TS Eliot wrote that the naming of cats is a serious matter. The same must be so for dogs.] |

but a coworker/friend who is also a neighbor has a couple of little guys that are really cute. It's great sport to tease my friend about his little rat dogs, and he's really quick with his retorts.
Recent conversation in the office:
Chihuahua Dad: "Who owns the Rottweiler in the neighborhood? It was running loose the other night when I was walking the boys and little Sam just stood there shaking when he saw the Rottie."
Me: "Yeah, Sam knew he was just an appetizer for that real dog. The little wuss, standing there shaking like a little girl dog."
Chihuahua Dad: "No, no, you misunderstood! Sam was shaking with RAGE, not fear!"
Another conversation:
Me: "I saw on the new where a Chihuahua threw himself in front of a rattlesnake to save a little boy. Would your little chicken dogs do that to save you?"
Chihuahua Dad: "Heck no, my wife would have thrown ME in front of the snake to save the boys." |
