I have an XE-1541 cable hooked up to a Commodore 1541-II drive. Copying individual files is fine, but I cannot copy a whole disk image (D64) to a floppy without a 'disk full' error.
Has anyone else had this problem? I formatted the diskettes on a 128D, and the 1541-II has no problem reading these or any of my old Plus/4 disks that are 15+ years old. (This seems to eliminate an alignment problem.)
all the features, but I have no problem.
Have you tried to change the speed (from Warp to Turbo, or else from Turbo to Normal)?
If this is not the case, you can contact Joe Foster, author of StarConmmander at: sta@c64.org.
To be honest I had problems getting anything to work at first. I put it down to my PC and the way it handles DOS. When I copyed over to PC whole disks they all had errors on. So I had to copy 1 file at a time to D64.
I had problems getting mtap to work as well. I have to use a Win boot disk and then run mtap. It wont run from shutting down to DOS on my machine..
So I blame my PC. Time is short to look into it. I have them working which is the most important part for me even if it`s long winded.
As you my understand I have many, many hours of work to do trying to fix pages and even the old pages I have yet to change the look of. Almost all are bad. So take it easy on what you look at. The Games Index and Tap pages are ok for now as they dont have the banners on.
I can not make this site (new look) work with Netscape4.72 by adding the banners.
No matter how hard I try with new tables, frames or what ever the banners constantly crashes Netscape. I`m having to reboot every time I try to look at it and it ante no fun!
My host Zoop has not replyed to my email asking for help. Today I found out why just on the off chance,
http://www.emucamp.com does the same thing to Netscape. It will kill your machine. No wonder he has`nt replyed........
So I have deleted the banners from each new look page.
It states I MUST HAVE THE BANNERS on each main page on the site, look here: http://www.emucamp.com/hosted.htm
Well I cant live with this shit any longer so unless they sort it out there staying off.
In the mean time they may get upset about it. To be honest I dont know if or when they might complain.
We`ve all done it, just jumped into a site with out reading the small print.
Honest Ati it`s bad. It hangs your machine. If anyone was doing anything important then this would be bad.
I was lucky may harddrive did`nt die.
What I did`nt understand was I did get the banners working at one time. So I played around with the tables abit to tidy it up only for it to crash again. After rebooting I put the old table text back on the banners how it woked before, but it crashed.......
It's such a buggy program that it pisses me off. I used to check my paged for 'Netscape compatibility', but I can't be arsed anymore. I don't know wtf is wrong with the bastards who code it but that program is no good for your system.

but if I remember correctly this title was offered for sale in the United States by Tri-Micro. I cannot find the last large catalog I received from them in the Summer of 1988, but it is not listed in the previous ones I can set my hands on at this moment.
Tri-Micro did license a lot of Plus/4 and C16 software from UK distributors who did not want to go through the effort of promoting the Plus/4 versions in the US. I obtained several Bug-Byte titles from Tri-Micro on diskette this way.
United States copyright law allows for a copyrighted work to be protected for the life of the author plus 50 years, or 75 years from first publication in the case of a company or distributor owning the copyright.
There are some titles that were published here that may not have been released over in Europe, but they're usually text-based such as a lottery prediction program and an update to the built-in software.
My wife purchased a software title at one time that showed David Johnson as one of the programmers, and was released by a California company. When I have time, I intend to try to contact this person to see if he is the same David Johnson who wrote the Plus/4's built-in software, and if so to try to get permission to redistribute his update on the Internet for the benefit of those who could not obtain it 15 years ago.
Tri-Micro was the company founded by David Johnson and his wife to distribute computer software. They took it upon themselves to try to keep the Plus/4 alive here in the States. Most of their other software was licensed from other companies and independent authors.
But I will, when I find the 'ultimate' catalog, post a list of what they had available in 1988.
The status of releasing the 'update' or 'fix' to the built-in software hasn't changed. I still have not located the David Johnson in question.
However, my wife is almost ready to have a baby (our first son) so there's a lot of other stuff going on here that prevents me from spending as much time on the computer as I used to.
Tri-Micro lists "Jeep Command" as part of their "Two-Fer" package in the Fall/Winter 1986 catalog, page 44. It was packaged with Aardvark on the same diskette for $14.95 US.
It only shows in the one catalog, not any before or after, so I suspect that they either had low sales or that they never received the license from the oroginal publisher. (There is a note at the beginning of this section that Tri-Micro was still in negotiations and would need about 30 days before they could ship some of these titles.)
A Plus4 only game that never was released from Anco ??
by Lando
Back in the golden days I was always keen to get my hands on anything that came from Anirog/Anco. At one time I had almost all of them, but there was always one game I never did see.
THAI BOXING
It was a (Last Ninja view) 3D fighting game and showed the boxers faces with brusises from fighting at the top of the screen.
Anco put adverts in the mag`s for this game and showed it available for the Plus4, but I never saw it!
Did anyone ever see it, own it or know if it was ever released ?
I can prove the advert does excist if your now wondering the same.
What Lando has on the site, is the C16 version (which sucks big time)... He got excited as he thought a game similar to the C64 version was released for plus/4 only and he doesn't have it!
Thinking about it. The old C16 Thai Boxing was released in 1985.
Then again, this new Thai Boxing was released 1987-ish and states only the Plus4?
Something in the back of my mind makes me think the C16 version was the one they ment for us but...
In the magazine the month before this it has the same advert, but NO Plus4 version as shown on this one.
At the time ANCO were king and released many cool games, even Classic Snooker was Plus4 only.. then we had Strip Poker and Plus4 versions of Terra Nova, Bridge Head. The games line up was great and just maybe this new version of Thai Boxing was coming our way ?
I am looking for Micro Illustrator. I originally had it as Commodore USA released it in C64/Plus4 diskette format. My orginal diskette has gone bad.
Does anyone at all have a working copy of this in D64 format (I doubt because of the copy protection) or an original diskette that they would be willing to part with?
I still have the mail-in 'backup' card that Commodore sent with the program, not like it does any good now....
I have found a MICRO ILLUSTRATOR in my old Plus/4 disc archive,
I guess it is a cracked version. I dont know if it is the right program,
but you can give it a try. It is a .prg and runs o.k. with Yape.
Do you have the passwords for Frank Bruno`s Boxing....PLEASE!
I`ve made a .TAP image of the whole game and sure it`s cool, but I cant beat the Canadian Crusher!! So I cant tell if the .TAP is 100% fine with-out having tested all loads of the TAP.
Man I finished this game years ago
If not, anyone is welcome to a copy if you wish to play and help me test it.
Mail me.
Cheers,
(My head is in pain after already playing it for an hour!)
Did you get the codes, if not let me know and I will route out some old Commodore User mags form the garden shed and look for them, as I think they were printed once on the POKES & PEEKS Cheats pages, cheers.
able to search for a filename
inside a cluster of D64 images?
This one could be very useful to fastly view if you own or don't that
new cool prg. you just have seen on the web...
Thanx
I tried to search in .d64 archives with my (still 0.1 and only reading) WinCmd .D64 plugin and it works! Windows Commander 4.x (http://www.ghisler.com) can search in known archives (in the Find Files dialog box check 'search archives'). It unpacks them to a temporary dir, looks for the file in the temp dir and then deletes the files. And the plugin makes .D64 files to regular archives for Windows Commander. The only point is that you cannot search for non-ASCII chars as they are stripped away by the plugin.
If you want to give it a try, e-mail me and I will send it to you. There is still no site to download, maybe Lando could put it somewhere on the BEST Plus4 site ever (Lando, reading this?)
I think Lando would gladly distribute it as well, but my homepage also has a download section, where you not only can download Yape, but some other goodies as well. I always wanted to make PC-util section there, so I offer my help if you agree
Also, I have another section, called "Archives", may I put up Microillustrator there for everyone to enjoy? Thx!
An offtopic message only to cry in this board:
my tune reached the 10th position only in the final chart of Forever party, kept in Slovakia a couple of day ago...
It look`s like the site is pretty fucked with Netscape.
To be honest!! And I lay my hands down now! The new look was made around NS 4.72 all off line. Making sure everything was fine. And off line it works like a dream!!
Could it be the banners or the counter ?? Thats the only things missing when I`m working on it........
Try Mozilla, Netscape is based on it, but that is far more ahead of Netscape in terms of stability. You can use the so called Milestones (current is 0.8) or even daily builds! I use it myself since a while!
Just to say a happy belated birthday on you 1yr 5 day old site, sorry my input has'nt been much yet, but don't give up the sites superb, thanks for all yours and your contributors efforts hopefully I will speak with you soon, thanks again.
Take a look at this new Sega game called Monkey Ball for the arcade/Dreamcast. Haven't I seen this somewhere before? I wonder if it's based on the Plus4 classic Trailblazer?
Does anyone know if the program sidloader.prg, that comes with SIDPlay for Windows, has been ported over to the Plus/4? I'd like to use a similar player in case I get a SID board.
Do you think it would be too difficult to port it over?
Thanks,

Hey Luca,
As lando suggests, here I ask teh question to you. Do you know if the sidloader.prg thing has been ported to the PLus/4? Otherwise, would it be possible to, through a PC64 cable, use the SID-board equipped Plus/4 as a SID playing dummy machine, just like what you do with a C64/128? Is there any chance of porting the program? Easily?
Thanks in advance,
- Akira

sidloader.prg is a C64 program which, with the use of a PC64 cable, plays the SIDs that SIDPlay for Windows throws at the C64 thru the PC64 cable. I'd like to do the same thing with the Plus/4. So I was thinking about converting teh program or something (if it is not already out there)
About the readily available, normal SID players for the PLus, do any of those accept the vry SAME format that SIDPlay uses?

But I find much simple to convert a .sid file with the /files/convert option, then transfer the file on a 5.25 disk and listen to it with a sidplayer...
... not to fiddle around with any kind of disks. I just send the SID data thru the PC64 cable to the Plus/4, from my PC, with normal SIDPlay commands. I odnt have to touch 2 machines, or even more, I dont even need to turn on the monitor for the PLus/4, since it works in a 'dummy terminal' mode.
That's what I Wanted to do I guess I'm bettere scoring a C64 and using it as a dumb SID terminal...

Dear Experts,
I'd like to copy my C64 BASIC files from a VC1541 disk drive formatted floppy to PC to run my files there. I haven't been successfull with the C64 emulation programmes, they can't read the floppy.
Can you help me?
Thank you!
Dénes
to do this operation. No PC device can read/write 5.25" CBM formatted disks.
If you own a 1541 disk drive, you can transfer your files using a special program (I suggest STAR COMMANDER) running in the PC, while connecting the drive with the parallel port of your PC. The cable is known as X1541
My son put me yesterday to show him how the old Commdoore Plus4 works. So putting it to work I have discovered that it is in perfect condition as well as it's datasette (1531)
Unfortunately I don't have anymore the joystick(s) and I still have only a few games (on tapes).
Looking for some accesoriess and games on the net I have discovered this beautiful site. Good job, Lando !
Can anyone tell me from where can I buy a joystick and how can I download (or buy) some games ? I do not have Commodore diskete drive !
Ok, I finally am receiving my Commodore Plus/4, and I was wondering: will my 1571 disk drive work with it? I know the +4 takes all the C64 peripherals, but asking just won't hurt
Lando, I'll email ya soon about those joystick adapters =D

your 1571 will work with the Plus4, but only at the normal 1541 speed,
as the Plus4 does not understand the C128/1571 burst protocol.
The 1551 - which is designed for Plus4 - has a parallel
connector and works much faster.
Maybe a Plus4 ROM extension (OS96) understands the 1571 burst, I dont know.
