Any room next season on the AAA 96’s, 97’s or 98’sMarch 31 2009 at 9:05 AM | Anonymous (no login) |
| Any room next season on the AAA 96’s, 97’s or 98’s ? since all finished the season with a pretty good ranking.
There were whispers in the valley a few of the mighty Affton 97’s will be flying the coup to the valley next fall.

Looks like the Affton 97’s better find a goalie, Thiers was skating with 97AAA last night. |

It was the 97 that played 96. The 98 that played 97 was only on last years team by default. |

|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 7 2009, 7:30 PM |
ALL AAA tryouts begin May 15th
which should be interesting since 97 website shows the 97's are in Chicago 15,16,17
then
participating in another tourney 22,23,24
That would mean they need to start tryouts Monday and end on Thursday.
Unless..........
the team is already picked and tryouts aren't necessary - but we'll still take your $75 fee.
Side Note:
I honestly don't mind if the team is pre-picked. These guys are scouting all year round and recruiting (without or with tampering) from CSDHL even from club AA. They know who the best are before the "tryout" begins. What I do mind is pretending the other boys have a chance. Even though your son tells you, "dad I know I won't make it I just want to try out for fun." There are still tears when they get cut.

Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 7 2009, 9:49 PM |
I don't think there is any pretending here. Talk to the parents of the kids who made AAA last year for the first time when the team was "already picked", there were many. That's the same story every year, that the team is "already picked", but every year new kids take spots and that is one of the many reasons why St Louis AAA is successful. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 8 2009, 6:49 AM |
You people are funny. Team already picked blah blah blah and if my kid does not make it must be because of team being pre-picked. Don't you remember when Al picked the team last May and it was so awful that he picked three new players and kicked three old ones off the team? |

“Too bad none of the Affton 97's are trying out.”
If that is the case then why is the goalie skating with the 97 AAA ? Is he working undercover , secretly recruiting AAA players over to Affton ?
|
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 9 2009, 11:36 AM |
Here's a thought maybe the kid likes playing hockey
so
he practices with both Affton and AAA
wild huh
p.s. since the teams aren't pre picked why were players told last year and already this year to "not bother trying out"
Lie to yourself all you want, I'm not that naive and I really don't care. My son isn't trying out for AAA or even CSDHL. So let's see who has a bias the guy (me) with no chips in the game or a guy who wants to believe his self created fantasy.

Hey St. Louis people, do us a favor here in Chicago and stay the hell in MO for the spring. Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 16 2009, 12:23 PM |
Affton does not question or ask any player not to play at AAA. It is a decision made by each individual family involved. If your info is correct already a few of the players who have skated at Affton in the past are ivolved in Spring AAA pre-skates. Bully for them. It may be a good fit for those families. For others playing Central States, having success and skating for the top Tier 2 orginization in the country isn't all that bad. We wish all well on their jump to AAA hockey and others shouldn't be criticized for their choices. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 17 2009, 7:35 AM |
No where on this thread did it say try out for AAA but do not return to Affton. That is one of the great myth's told to players as they try out for AAA along with the next line they tell parents. If you do not make our AAA team, stay and play for Chesterfield Central States, so we follow your progress and you remain on our radar screen for next season. They forget to tell you that their Central states teams are second fiddle to Affton, that the success at Affton at CS in moving players to AAA is the direct route, and their team's schedules are filled with games against AAA teams and tournaments where they are invited to play, not Chesterfield. Please enjoy your stay at AAA but by no means is your son not allowed a return trip to Affton. Just remember all because a AAA sticker is on a helmet doesn't mean the player is any better than some others at tryouts. Look at the Chesty 95 team loaded with AAA castoff's. That was a bad team. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 17 2009, 8:54 AM |
These last few negative comments are from parents whose kid doesn't get to follow along with the rest of his team. If they make the AAA team, good for them it is really credit due to the learning by the hockey player and teaching of the Affton/Chesterfield coaches. Isn't that what each child and coach wants is for the kids to get better as the years go on, isn't that as a parent why we spend this kind of money every year. If they don't get any better each year and stay stagnet then why are you spending this kind of money. Maybe you should sit back and take a look at your own kid and stop worring about everyone else. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 17 2009, 12:26 PM |
Is it mandatory that a player when he reaches a certain talent level play AAA hockey? I don't see it in any hockey manuel, nor do I hear coaches from NCAA or Junior A checking hockey backgrounds from Mites through Bantam years. Though good coaching and the ability to master the basic hockey skills are important in the early years, the fact that one player plays AAA his early years and has ex-NHL types as coaches doesn't make the total package complete. Most players heading to the Valley these days have their skills developed by many other programs and coaches in the area, not the AAA coaches. Give Al the Chesty mite AA team next year, and lets see how well they do. No one time transfers, no player movement, just the players in house to coach. No national titles, no silver sticks, just an average group struggling in the mite division I would bet. But hand him the best players in town at a certain level, and greatness is bestowed and rip everybody else out there coaching and playing. I don't get it. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 17 2009, 12:58 PM |
No the manual doesn't say they have to play AAA, thats not what the comment was stating, it basically states, who cares what kid does what, take care of your own and stop worring about the other!!!!!!!!!!!! |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 99s? | April 17 2009, 1:53 PM |
12:26 - yeah the more elite the team the easier they are to coach. The only reason Scotty Bowman has so many cups is that he always got to coach the best teams. That's why you should become the next head coach of the Detroit Red Wings. You'll make millions doing a very easy job.
The endless idiocy and jealousy on here never ceases to astound. |

The AAA 97’s are playing in a tournament right after tryouts, one of the current goalies has been replaced with the Affton goalie. Im going out on a limb here, but it looks to me as Tkachuk is making a goalie change.
ooops sorry that would be new head coach Janes will be making a goalie change and a few roster moves .. the 97s will turn over a goalie and 2 to 4 players .
McGlynn could also losing some of his supporting cast, He might keep 2 of the “Big three”, but AAA is picking off the goalie and a forward or two that “could” have helped play a roll in next years team.

May 29th - Chicago - Nike Bauer (posted above)
3 spring tournaments 2 out of town in 3 weeks.

“the invited guest that Big Walt has asked to join the team?” , that would be a pretty safe guess
The 96's set the bar high. Now the pressure is on for the rest of AAA,And with the 97’s going into a season with nationals on the line, The coaching staff will try to put the best team possible on the ice. McGlynn and his coach’s will do the same.

You are forgetting the ripple affect.
In the 97's - Say your son is a goalie.
AAA brings in L.O. that means one of the 2 existing is cut.
They move down to CSDHL - ah but which CSDHL.
If they choose CHA then, that means a CHA-CS goalie is cut.
Then, does he return to home club or try Affton-CS
If he makes Affton-CS who does that affect.
and so on.
You may have thought your son was going to be the second goalie on Kirkwood-AA
now between the Kirkwood / Webster merger and the push down affect he's playing A2
gotta love the craziness.
p.s. my son is not a goalie but, he does play one on TV.

Why would anybody want to try out for 97AAA? Playing in front of 15,000 at the Quebec Colisee and having a shot at Tier I nationals sounds like a boring hockey season to me. Why chase a Tier I national title when you can go after a Tier II national title. That is one extra "I" so it must be better, right? |

And you wonder why she won't want her kids to play AAA. The family has been playing CS for years and have never been brought up on these boards, but now maybe they go to AAA and they get to put up with this. |

I guess she could have her kids stay at CS so she can hang out with the people that are putting her family on these boards.
Seems some CS parents are working hard to keep her kids from moving.

Momma O was quoted last week saying that they "aren't going anywhere". Too bad for AAA, guess LO will have to share time with the 98. |

No share time there Butch. 98 not ready for prime time. Big man grooming another 97 this spring to avoid conflicts. |

Yeah right.... straight from peewee b1 to CS PM. Sounds like a smart move. BTW that "not ready for prime time" won the champioship last year at 97. How about the 97 playing 96? |

Kevin might not be the biggest problem. It may be the other 97 dad that thinks he runs everything. Also, we will see if Garth is his own man or if he keeps the little Webster defenseman and the rest of his buddies. If he does he is no better than anyone else that they could have had. |

Thanks again Goof, but you are the biggest problem. The other dad that thinks he runs everything is going to be watching his kid play AAA this year. |

Don't be so confident smart guy. His kid may go out and take your kid's spot. Look for another whipping boy. This guy donates more time and energy towards our kids and if you don't like him and his family let him know at the rink. I would like to see that one! |

Toward our kids? You mean toward his kids dont you? Politics as usual, anything to make his kids look better. He knows how I feel. Wold love to see him at AAA tryouts, that would be a good laugh. |

i heard he was in top 3 of defenseman on last years team-was that not
true? |

At times he was the top defenseman. He deserves to be back on the team. |

A goalie switch isn't going to assure them the national or quebec championship. The true question is will the 97's put together a team that can make a run for Nationals and Quebec or will they risk it by continuing to protect friends and ride shares. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Any room next season on the AAA 96’s, 97’s or 98’s | May 12 2009, 8:59 PM |
You're kidding right? Ride shares? This team has been ranked the no. 1 North America team the last two years playing the top US and Canadian aaa teams. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Any room next season on the AAA 96’s, 97’s or 98’s | May 12 2009, 9:59 PM |
New 97 coach with no friendships to worry about. Just the best kids that deserve to be on the team. all the famlies should have vehicles so ride sharing shouldn't be an issue |

ANONYMOUS (no login) | Re: Any room next season on the AAA 96’s, 97’s or 98’s | May 13 2009, 7:30 AM |
The best defense on the team was the offense. The times I seen them play the back checking and not giving up shots was the only way they won anything. The defense and goaltending were average on a good day. I am not sure last years team could score much either. That was last years team now they can run a webster system...whatever that is. |

Thanks Paul, hope you have fun at AAA next year, but the goals against posted on the central states website would suggest that the defense and goaltending were far better than average. The goals for, on the other hand, would suggest the mediocrity that you proclaim existed. |

The 97's have done nothing but being ranked #1 since they have been ranked. Been an incredibly consistent and good team yet some of you numb nuts say there is no chance for a national championship or pw quebec victory. We will see what happens but to act like this team has problems or is anything but another huge asset to this town is freaking nuts. |

Some guy obviously not associated with either team pulled out of his ass that the teams did not play. I just posted a link with the facts.
My point was just to debunk another idiot who did not have the facts but was posting as if he did. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: Any room next season on the AAA 96’s, 97’s or 98’s | May 20 2009, 10:13 AM |
How about defections from 97 AAA
there were rumors (I know take it for what it's worth)
that a few had chosen not to return.
There was also another rumor that a 98 AAA goalie may be moved up to the 97's.
3 Questions:
1) Any of last years 97 AAA not tryout last night?
2) Who was the 1 Affton CSDHL that was new to the tryouts?
3) Were there just the 2 incumbent goalies or was there surprise?
|

Goaltender will continue to face weak competition in a weak league and fail to improve. Gald he is staying where he is but I have seen the differenc in play level. |

Just what we need, another thread cop who can't argue the message so attacks the messenger. |

One Affton forward showed up (JH).
One forward back to play defense with the 98s (TF)
One forward not trying out (DK) |
