Just to let the kids have some fun and have affton sell some more ice and increase membership. It is all good.

Re: Untitled

The biggest difference is that under the previous setup for Affton MM there was little to no practice time and the comittment from players was poor. They would basically show up when they felt like it. This team will have regular practices and it will feel more like a team and not a recreational team that is 2nd to varsity. Will be interesting to see if players will have a full commitment and if they put this team ahead of varsity???

doesn't hurt to try out everywhere does it? I see nothing wrong with trying out at another club, if you want to give yourself some options, why not do it

if some of these kids play on their high school varsity club, I would expect a high school coach to say high school comes first over a AA league

that has just been our experience anyway

I think we can even go a step further. If you are playing tier II at midgets, it is just all about fun. Play for your affton team, play for your high school team. It really does not matter. Do whatever you are having the most fun doing.

No problem. More education. At midgets you have four AAA teams, six central states teams, kids playing for Behan and almost all of them are doing nothing substantial with hockey. Dont worry about anything except having fun.

Yeah, and if he's not having fun, then let him quit. Even though our son played CS for several years and was asked back this year, he looked at what happened with the boys on the Championship CS MM team a couple of years ago - i.e. nothing - and decided that he'd skip the drama and the politics and save a lot of money and devote his time to studying. Much more future in that. Smartest move he ever made.

Re: Untitled

Of course you can have both academics and hockey. I think 2:01's poing and it is a good one that there comes a time when most kids realize they are not going to do anything with hockey. It is simply an activity they like. Even if they are relatively decent there are plenty of other things to occupy their time and some are glad after they quit to have all the time that hockey demands doing other things.
I think his other point that even a midget major national championship tier II team has players who are going to do nothing with hockey. If your kid is not one of the best players on a tier I team at midgets, it will just be the beer league in a few years and that should be ok for everyone.

It also depends on when your son reaches physical maturity, providing he has the skill set to play tier one... and only then you can determine if he has a future after midgets.

Re: Untitled

What does "did not do anything with hockey" mean??? There are players in the Jr. system, NCAA D1 and a couple in the NHL that have come out of St. Louis. Not to mention all the players who are at NCAA D3 schools and ACHA D1,2,and 3. Believe it or not, not every kid that continues playing is talked about on N54. I could not even begin to count the number of players from the 88, 89, and 90, and 91 birth years who are playing right now, it would be easier to count the ones who have quit...

Hockey parents are the biggest bunch of dream killing nay sayers I have ever seen...at least be truthful about it and admit, your kid has lost the drive and wants to party and have a social life like everybody else or that you don't want to spend the money anymore....don't talk about hockey vs education as an excuse because they are not mutually exclusive...

My kid played CS all the way through and is now playing on a NCAA D3 team he would never have made had he only played High School. He is getting an outstanding education and playing at the same time. The bonus, we don't have to pay for hockey anymore.

Re: Untitled

Actually I think you misunderstood. The number of kids coming out of st louis and doing something with hockey is amazing particularly in the 88-92 birth years.

And I am happy your kid is playing D3 club hockey. Hope he is having fun with it. A relative in my family is playing club hockey for a D1 school and I can tell you any program where the puck bag smells like bong water is just about the fun. Glad your kid is having fun.

I dont think hockey parents are dream killers. I think many of them are in dream fanatasy land because their kid is a decent tier II player. If their kid sticks with it they too might play some club hockey but a great experience is not the same as doing something with hockey.

The number of kids that are doing something substantial with hockey is simply amazing. Several kids with D1 committments and scholarships.

My kid does not want to party instead of hockey, just realizes his time is better spent than playing to see who does the last beer bong before practice.

Maybe we just disagree with what "doing something with hockey" means.

2:01, First, your son wasn't asked back, and I can tell you another thing, he was seen last weekend getting drunk and stoned with his new buddies, but at least you can use the money you saved by not playing hockey on rehab..............

Are you kidding? He was exposed to more druggies on his last team than he ever met in civilian life. Do you really think hockey players don't do that stuff.

I dont think any rational parent would ever kill their kids hockey dream of playing d III hockey. Hell, even the kids who quit in high school might be able to pick it up and start playing d III when they hit college.

well great and not so great are relative terms. But here is the final four from earlier this year for dIII hockey

Gustavos Adolphus (18-10-0) vs. Wis.-Stout (23-5-2);
Neumann (19-9-2) vs. Hobart (21-6-2).

Glad the guys kid is having a good time playing hockey. But if these are the four best teams.................

Re: Untitled

I noticed that one of those teams has a st louis kid on it and that kid has a brother who played D1 hockey. So if that is you dad, you would certainly know. Guess not much happening with the bottom third of d1 hockey.
If that was you, a few years back when you dressed up as a cheerleader on halloween still makes me laugh when I think about it.
