Great Hockey at the NAHL Showcase in St.PetersOctober 9 2009 at 6:18 PM | Anonymous (no login) |
| I had the pleasure of watching 4 exciting competitive AAA games at the NAHL league showcase of Midget Major and Minor hockey at the new St Peters Ice rinks. Nice venue, well organized. If the Selects are going to bring in these quality teams from all over the continent, they should be commended. Games will be going on until Monday. Any hockey fan should attend and support this youth hockey. |

Well, I am sure there will be plenty of "looks" this weekend.
Hell, some of the kids might even be invited to try out for a Jr A team at some point, in the end talent and not politics wins out. |

NAHPL adding Bantams for next seasons. Let the players start lining up to play for the Selects. |

I was impressed with the officiating. The league was monitoring the officials and it showed It was a breath of fresh air to see well officiated games. Cudos to the NAHPL for the showcase. |

I was impressed with the scouts. They were really generous with their time and information. If you asked them a question they were really good about answering. I thought they'd be a little more tight lipped and not want to disclose what they thought, but they were really good about telling you what they were looking for, who they were watching and anything you wanted to know about their programs. It was fun to get their take on the process. Very informative. |

And what are they looking for and who are they watching? |

12:30 is a clown. He writes all of these generalizations and never says anything specific. Hmm! Let's see! The scouts are looking for speed, skill, leadership, and determination. Gee, that helps. |

there were no scouts of any major d-1, junior or anything worthwhile in attendance. maybe a couple local d-2/3 "scouts" that didn't have to travel. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: NAHPL officiating | October 16 2009, 5:25 PM |
Obviously you weren't there. Much more impressive line up of scouts from various organizations than I would have expected. Appeared to be mostly from NAHL and other junior teams, but definitely a well scouted event. Why would you think there wouldn't be scouts at a Midget AAA event with teams from across the country? |

How did they effect the refereing? Were they telling them what to and what not to call? |

Hey, 2:00 PM, people who live in giant red shoes shouldn't throw pies. What'd you expect 12:30 to do, give you a transcript of the conversation. |

10:51, Not impressed with the scouting or the officiating? |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: NAHPL officiating | October 17 2009, 12:46 PM |
You know I too am always impressed when teams get 15 penalties and their coaches are kicked out. When one of the teams is a roller team whose four players line up at the blue line on a face off and they have like 9 players. When many coaches were kicked out over the weekend. It was a joke.
Glad the kids had fun, but go sell crazy somewhere else, we are stocked up on it here. |

That is funny....what is a roller team doing at an NA showcase? |

I am not quite what the last guy meant.Do you mean they only paid you 9 bucks to watch the game? Did you have to act like a scout or anything for that 9 bucks? |

They played the 16th ranked Philly Jr. Flyers. For what it's worth, which is maybe nothing at all, the Flyers are ranked 16th and the U16 AAA Amatuer Blues are ranked 14th. |

I dont have my kid playing for the Selects for the reasons you believe to be important, "winning". Sure its great to be on a winning team. The two choices we have put our money into this year, my son has been approached by 3 scouts and has gone up a letter grade in school. Thats what is important to me, as a parent. Providing long term goals for my kid. If you have different choices for your kid, great. Good luck with your kids winning. |

Maybe he could go up two letter grades if he was not out of town so much. I am glad that the Cavallini's do place an emphasis on academics. But the whole we are going to get your kid noticed cracks me up. Get noticed by who? So he can get put on some worthless draft list that a over a 100 kids are on each birth year.

You have f--cked up issues and apparently dont have a clue. Sorry you cant provide this for your kid, or maybe you have some childhood issues with yourself. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: NAHPL officiating | October 24 2009, 9:06 AM |
Actually I have a complete clue. In my opinion, no clue is spending 10,000 bucks on a pipe dream when you dont have college money saved. One of the kids I know this to be true and I think it is complete bullshit. But you can have your opinions and so can I.
I do know the talent on this team, I do know what it takes to make it to any substantial level in hockey, I know a heck of a lot. If you want to drink the cavallini kool aid that is fine. Chug it by the gallon. |

9:06- what is your issue? You spout off about college savings but how do you know the criteria that people use to subscribe to various activities in their life? Who are you to judge?
Some people have so much money $10 grand isn't even worth discussing while others scrape by to allow their child to follow a dream, isn't that what being free means?
For you or anyone else to think you "know a heck of a lot" means nothing to me when I make decisions on where I go to dinner or what TV show I watch, which is exactly the same amount any of these people care about what you think about their decision to subscribe to a hockey program being offered locally that serves multiple criteria for many families.
Get a life. |

9:37- For a person who does not care, that was a pretty nice rant. This is a message board where we state our opinions. I completely agree that people have a right to do what they want. That is what being free is about. Just like being free that scraping by and spending 10 grand for a pipe dream does not make sense to me. But more power to you if it makes sense to you. But being free also allows me to state my opinion in a forum that is all about expressing opinions. Not saying you are just scraping by to have your kid play on the team, the person I know on the team is.
As far as your "other activities", I dont know shit about them nor do I claim to. I do know about hockey and what it takes to make it to anything substantial.
I have a friend who several years ago spent many thousands on modeling agencies so his daughter could "get her big break". Problem was, his kid was just not attractive but it is what his kid wanted. He had every right to spend his money the way he wanted and that dream has come and gone. It seemed stupid to me as does spending all this money and time for cavallini's U16 team. But knock yourself out.

This person you say "you know on the team", do you pay their bills, balance their check book, deposit the paychecks? That is alot to claim you know about someone. I think you just like to pout off. Sorry your friends daughter didnt get her big break. But im sure it gave her self esteem, a purpose for focus, life lessons, and filled her time with a positive goal. I dont think these boys think they are going to be drafted straight into the NHL. It teaches them hard work ethics, the importance of self disipline, ect. I think the benefits out weigh the down falls. And if you say someone on the team stuggles financially with this, I commend them. I dont really think its all about chasing a pipe dream, as you say.And in total agreement, everyone has the right to their opinions, but it seems to me, that your over opinionated. If they dont share yours, there is something wrong with them. |

Good post.
The bottom line isn't where they are but how much of a positive impact it will have in the future. Kids aren't stupid. They know if they are on a good team or not by wins/losses and by advancing to playoffs/regionals etc...
But if they get the life lessons of confidence, overcoming adversity, ability to perform beyond expectations in pressure situations, is effective and hopefully long lasting.
Good luck to all the teams from AAA and Selects to the house teams! | |
