I noticed you struggled a little there..
Was that you're connection that went, or did it just diminish?

I'm running some tests over the next few days, as to why some dial up users seem to lose their connection to the server..
Cable users are in there all day and night, but dial up seem to have problems..

d/l speeds are slow today..Mind you I have a bunch of people nabbing stuff off me on Grokster too, so that could be it.

yep, it was as good as i ever get at first (3.5kb/s - WHOOSH!!) then got kicked out & at this rate (0.5!!) should have my tune in time for the next bank holiday.
its the same with audiogalaxy.
i blame AOL or my own ignorance, but it didn't used to drop out as much as it does now - just assumed as more people d/l the less reliable these things get? do dialup d/ls cause grief for other users?

Me and me mates have a laugh, coz we was all once 56kers, and now two of us are Broadband, so we give the others stick for slowing the internet down..



As for as the server goes, I'm allowed something around 128Kilobits upload ( about 16 KiloBytes )..
So, if there is ( as there was a few mins ago..) you on 56k and the NTL Broadband guy in there, then the NTL guy will pinch all the speed..He was only getting 8k or so, coz I'm giving something like 6k to Grokster.

Leaves me with virtually nothing, which is why I have to restrict the bandwidth at times, while I get stuff upped to the websites etc.


Yes, yer right, as more and more people log in, the less stable things get..
The ESFTP account has an idle time of 2mins, to stop people hogging when they've gone to bed and the download has finished..
So, if AOL, or NTL has a drop out ( as they often do ) and that drop out lasts longer than 2 mins, then out you go..
S' a fact of life I'm afraid..

That said, there's currently 8 people in there now, 6 of which are cable users, so I'm doing summat right aren't I..?

I notice you're mooching in the Videos directory..
Better get a flask and some sandwiches mate.
