A documentary on The Stone Roses to be featured on
PLAY UK has been completed.
Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll is a new 10 part series on
PLAY UK. It begins on Fridays at 11.10pm from 10th May. Each episode lasts half an hour.
Episode 5: The Stone Roses will air on 7th June.
After a few enquiries, PLAY UK kindly sent me a copy of the episode to do a review.
This is a fantastic documentary on the band - very well put together. The first half concentrates on events up to Glasgow Green. The second half focuses on the hiatus and release of Second Coming.
There are contributions from the following:
Andy Couzens
Mani
John Robb (Biographer and close friend of band)
Steve 'Adge' Atherton (Stone Roses Tour Manager)
Alan McGee (Creation Records)
Kevin Cummins (Photographer of famous Roses Pollock shoot)
Steve Sutherland (Editorial Director, NME)
2 band members of Puressence (Kevin Matthews & Jimmy Mudriczki talk about the impact the band had on them as kids)
John Leckie (comments from Radio 1, 1997)
Paul Birch (Revolver Records, victim of famous paint-splattering incident by Roses)
Mani features throughout the documentary. This benefits the documentary greatly as the band's viewpoint is given on almost every event looked at.
Footage is mostly that from the music videos the band made and TV performances (Late Show, TOTP, etc).
I would highly recommend everyone to tune in for this series. If the other 9 episodes are of the quality of this one, it is going to be a cracking series.
