a question for you, if i uploaded songs to a web page could the download speed go above a normal 4.6 if the downloader had adsl?

Ok mate, here is a pic of my download speed.
I'm on 512k cable.



The ringed bit is what we're discussing, right?
Now that is from an NTL server, so it's gonna be good.
It starts at about 105KB a sec, and levels out between 50 and 60.

Now, if I'm d/ling from a stateside server, I may get half of that..Usually better, but I wouldn't expect less than half really.

4.6 is a good modem speed, but ADSL would download a 4MB MP3 in less than two minutes.

Have a play at these sites Dan, and see how you fare.
Bear in mind one user may get a better/worse result than another..All depends on where on the globe they are.

what i was really asking is if home made sites put a cap on download speeds, obviously not.

Maybe not downspeed caps Dan, but your ISP's homepage server will impose a monthly bandwidth limit.
If your site has a LOT of hits, it'll screw up eventually.
That said, I've never ever had it happen to me with an ISP server..But it would draw attention to your content if it got zillions of downloads..
I'm sure that's nothing you or I will have to worry about.
Unless you advertised the 'free MP3's' all over the internet..

The album is quite rocky..
