My wife Janet is from Peleliu. We attended the 50th reunion there in 1994. Janet can relate many stories from the "native" perspective. One is of her relative that fled to a rock island so as to escape certain death from the battling troops. While waiting out those initial days of battle, she gave birth to a daughter while hiding UP IN A TREE! As you may know, the Japanese military relocated most of the peaple from Peleliu to Babeldoab in anticipation of the battle. The little island wear the baby was born is visible in many of the battle photos. It lies just to the North, midline between Peleliu and Ngedebus (Ngesebus in the old maps). We would love to hear from you...Especially from General Davis. Respectfully yours, Tom and Janet Daniels; 5854 Grand Canyon Drive; Orlando, FL 32810. |
