I'm the acting armorer for MPco HQBN 1st MARDIV currently in Iraq. I have an M2 that I can't seem to keep the headspace or timing correct on. It is deployed in a gun line in the defense of an established camp, but due to the limited resources at my disposal, I am unable to rectify the problem by sending it to division armory for their opinion. My question is this: having tried everything that I know how to do already (and I have been a gunner with the MP's for 4 years) is there anything that anyone out there can suggest that might be causing this to happen or any ideas on how to prevent it? I currently have my Marines checking it every hour on the hour and almost every time or at least every other time, they have to change it a notch or two. Anyone have any tricks of the trade that may have been forgotten over the years to throw my way? I have already pretty much chalked it up to aging guns and expansion/contraction brought on by the climate. However, the temperature should not fluctuate enough in an hour or two to make that much of a difference. I'm looking for a quick fix here, and if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. You can reach me via e-mail and I'll check this message board again ASAP.
