Reno Attacks Anonymity on the Internet
A new government report says that some laws may need to be
revamped to deal with today's computer technology, and the days
of the
Internet providing its users a cloak of anonymity could be
numbered. Those are some of the key conclusions included in "The
Electronic Frontier: The Challenge of Unlawful Conduct Involving
the Use of the Internet" that was released today by Attorney
General Janet Reno and prepared by a special working group of
high-ranking federal law enforcement officials, as well as other
government agencies.

Federal Cyber-Cops Seek Broader Search-and-Seizure Powers
Federal agents need one-stop shopping for subpoenas and warrants
when they investigate cybercrime, according to the Justice
Department's second in command. Deputy Attorney General Eric
Holder told a Senate subcommittee Wednesday that since criminals
armed
with computers can operate from any location, the time-consuming
process of getting separate subpoenas no longer works.
