On this date, March 13, in the year...
1854: A company of Marines went ashore at Yokohama,
Japan, to act as escorts for presents sent to the
Emperor.
1911: A detachment of 22 officers and 666 enlisted
Marines, commanded by Major George C. Thorep, from 11
ships of the Atlantic fleet, landed at Guantanamo,
Cuba, to protect American interests in the face of
impending civil unrest.
1925: A force of 750 Marines from Quantico, Virginia,
took part in Joint Army-Navy exercises off Oahu,
Hawaii.
1946: In the Marianas, the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing
closed its command post on Guam and embarked its
headquarters for the West Coast.
