Feminists Push for Coed Submarines
Urge Committee Members to Support the Bartlett Amendment

On Wednesday, May 10, Rep. Roscoe Bartlett will offer an
amendment to the Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 4205) during
the
House Armed Services Committee mark-up to prevent the
immediate assignment of women to submarines. The Bartlett
Amendment will (1) require the Secretary of Defense to notify
Congress in writing of any changes to the male-only submarine
policy and (2) give Congress 120 legislative days to act before
any
federal funds could be used to accommodate women on submarines.

FEMINISTS ON THE ATTACK
Last week, the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the
Services (DACOWITS) recommended that the Navy begin integrating
women on submarines by assigning female officers to some
vessels.
This recommendation is part of the long-standing feminist plan
to
force full integration of the military, despite the risk to
national
security. Their new tactic is to change the submarine male-only
policy to coed.

DACOWITS is compromised of 36 civilians appointed by the
Secretary of Defense. Military experience is not a requirement
and
only five men currently serve.

THE NAVY SAYS 'NO'
The Navy opposes sex-integration of its submarines. Military
experts
argue that, with long periods at sea and extremely tight working
and
living conditions, sexual integration would endanger unit
cohesion.

DACOWITS urged the Navy to redesign the new Virginia-class subs
now under construction to accommodate women, which would cost
$4 million more per ship. A Navy briefing paper says that
redesigning
these subs to accommodate women, which are due for operation in
2004, "would have two negative effects: further degrade
habitability for
both genders and require removal of operational equipment
reducing
warfighting effectiveness."

The Navy also said that, in the current submarine fleet, it
would have
to remove war-fighting capabilities to make room for new
bathrooms
and living quarters if women are brought aboard.

ACTION ITEMS
The Bartlett Amendment will prevent the Secretary of Defense
from
changing the male-only submarine policy without first consulting
Congress.

Urge Members on the House Armed Services Committee to Vote
'YES' on the Bartlett Amendment to the Defense Authorization
Act.

Aw, what the heck, Gunny,

if the ladies want to serve on subs, let 'em. However, let's redesign them to fit the subs, rather than the other way around. Sure wouldn't cost 4 mil a copy. Sensitivity training, you say?
Just tire of the constant feminist noise level. Their next proposal will probably include hair styling salons at the expense of the stuff that goes swoosh and bang.
