After 25 years, former POW*MIA, LCpl. Andres Garcia's
remains are being
returned to his family for burial in his hometown of Carlsbad,
NM. The
remains of LCpl. Garcia, HQSquadron, 2ndBn, 9thMar, 3rdMarDiv,
DOB: 11/27/54,
Date of Loss: 5/15/75 during the rescue operations of the crew
of the
Mayaguez, have been found and formal services are being
arranged.
I have had the opportunity to speak with LCpl. Garcia's
sister, Sara.
She told me how relieved their family is that they finally have
closure.
Although, it has been a long time filled with much uncertainty,
they have
always been thankful that it was the last incident of the
Vietnam War. She
relayed to me her heartfelt sadness for the families who have
waited longer
and still wait.
To the Garcia family and to all the other families, it's not
"the POW*MIA
Issue"--it's a person--a person they loved, a person they waited
for with the
smallest glimmer of hope that perhaps they would again be
reunited. To LCpl.
Garcia's eight brothers and sisters and his parents, the wait is
over.
I promised Sara I would do whatever I could to tell Andy's
story. Her
cry echoes that of every other person I've ever talked to about
having a
loved one who is POW or MIA; "Don't let them be forgotten!"

Feel free to leave a message on the message board or sign the
guest book and
pass it on to anyone I might have missed.
WE WILL NOT FORGET!
