Firefighting Marines

My name is David Fontana. I am a New York City Firefighter. I
am looking
for any Marine who knew or served with the following for men.
Lt. Bernard P. McGreavy, Co. G, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd
Marine
Division, Died June 15, 1944, Siapan.
Pvt. Thomas F. Shortell, 34th Replacement Draft, 3rd Marine
Division, Died
March 8, 1945, Iwo Jima.
Pvt.1, Harold F.Holsten, Headquarters and Service Co, 7th
Marines, 1st Marine
Division, Died May 12, 1945, Okinawa.
Pvt. 1 Henry B. Innes, Headquarters Co, 1st Battalion, 29th
Marines, 1st
Marine Division, Died May 18, 1945, Okinawa.
Previous to their enlistment into the Marine Corps, these four
men served the
City of New York as Firefighters. After their Deaths their
names were added
to our Wall of Honor with all other Firefighters killed in the
line of duty
since 1865. There is no distinction to the fact that they did
not die here
in New York City, but that they died while serving their country
as United
States Marines in the Pacific during WWII. This fact has been
lost to all
but a few of the members of my Department. I would like all
members of the
New York City Fire Department to know of these four men and to
understand
their service an sacrifice for us and for our great nation.
Again, I would
like to hear from any Marine that served with these men.
Thank you. |
