Dear Joan,
I am highly appreciative that my prose article, "The
Leathernecks Serve Their
Country" was printed for the Internet. Thanks so much, Joan.
I am also glad that Bill Lykens sent thanks for #42. "Good
Poem". It is
always "Semper Fi" even with a Marine's wife.
So appreciative for the kind "critique" from Michael Fiske in
England. It is
not often that one gets a positive reaction to one's writings
(especially
that of PROSE). Michael has well described the feelings of Dick
and Kathryn.
"One can see that it is a universal state of mind as to World
War II. The
Soldiers fought and those that survived were left "dangling".
One comment: that I can never again view a war movie.
Thanks also to SSGT Joseph Grayhawk ("your friend")
And our best regards to 'Mari' in Silver Springs, Maryland.
I must tell the people that our visits with Richard (at CMC) are
happy ones.
Richard has such stability and strength. Mainly we are proud of
him that he
maintains his love and concerns for others, even with his
'friends' at CMC.

June 10, 2000 Saturday MY NEW DOCTOR
Dear Joan
Thank you for your letter of May 31st, and, the really pretty
pictures of
Seattle's flowers. All of that rain up there sure makes a
difference doesn’t
it.
Of interest, this past week I sat with my new doctor. ( The one
I wrote about
in my last trip report has been promoted. She is now head of all
of the
doctors. This is a good move for me. She is out of the way. She
won't see me
again).
My new doctor is Doctor Malek. He seems like a nice guy. He’s
imported from
somewhere. I’m not sure of his nationality. He’s certainly
an improvement
over the lady that hated felons.
I always type up a prepared set of notes when I sit with a
prison doctor. I
then ask if they would like a copy, and they always agree. The
purpose of
this is to make sure my problems get entered in my medical file.
Rather than
write a lot down, they just file my whole letter. The files then
end up
reading right. I will include a copy of that letter along with
this one. We
may find a use for it one day.

MEDICAL NOTES FOR CONFERENCE WITH DOCTOR MALEK
PATIENT - RICHARD KEECH - K-86028
1. I am steadily losing feeling in my feet and lower
limbs. The
condition is worsening. — I can no longer stand without
falling when I have
my eyes closed. (I can't tell what my feet are doing.)
2. The muscles in my legs are becoming progressively
weaker.— I am
not sure I could climb the stairs without using the hand rail.
3. What strength I can get from the muscles in my legs
runs out
after a short period of use. — Then I have to stop, sit down,
and let the
muscles regenerate. — I can walk about an eighth of a
mile before this
occurs. - When this happens my muscles hurt terribly. They ache
like they
once did at the end of a marathon run. After a minute this goes
away. - If I
insist on continuing they simply crumple out from under me and I
go down in a
heap.
4. I am 80. I have all the problems of an aging man
— I need glasses to read.
— I need hearing aids to hear well.
— I need dentures to eat.
- If heredity means anything I have about 8 more
years to go.
Considering the little time left, one could say I am a dying
man.
