This will be a brief newsletter but I have just a few things to share with all of you:
EVENTS:
I am understandably receiving many requests for November event schedules. I will post events as
they are "firmed up" as I don't want to announce any tentative plans only to have them revised at a
later date. I received info from HQ-USMC that the Headquarters Battalion Enlisted Marines Ball will
be held on 6 November and the Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Ball will be 10 November.
Locations should be decided by the end of July. I have not yet received information for Officer's or
All-ranks Balls, but hope to receive that information shortly. The details will be posted on the main
webpage and announced via newsletter. Your patience is appreciated!

'FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS":
James Bradley, son of Iwo Jima flag-raiser John Bradley (Navy Corpsman), and author of the NY
Times #1 Best-seller "Flags of our Fathers" will be interviewed on C-Span's "Booknotes" on Sunday,
9 July at 8:00 PM EST. I just received an inscribed copy of this outstanding book from James, and if
any of you would like him to sign it for you, get in touch with me and I'll provide you with details.

225th USMC Anniversary Ka-Bar:
Those who have received their Ka-Bar have nothing but great comments about this unique memento.
Here are just 2 actual testimonials I recently received:
(From a retired Marine officer and Vietnam combat veteran)
"Tom -
This Ka-Bar is a true winner and I will be surprised if you don't run out of them before
November gets here. If for some reason that is not the case (I can't
imagine it) then be assured that you could sell every one of them at double
the price at the Wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial on the 10th of
Nov. The Ka-Bar Fighting Knife is a true Marine Corps icon in the same way
as camo helmet covers, the leggings of WWII and Korea and many other
subtleties that Marines recognize. Of the many Ka-Bar's I have carried none
looked quite like this one! And yet, there is something very attractive and
appealing in a masculine, visceral way about the Marine Corps Fighting
Knife. Of course we use it for utility purposes in countless ways, but its
real purpose is for fighting. And this comes from a grunt Marine who has
actually used it, and seen it used, for this singular purpose.
My thanks to you, and be assured that it will be placed in a very visible spot so that everyone can see
and appreciate this magnificent item that speaks volumes about our great Corps."
(From a former USMC Corporal and Vietnam combat veteran):
"Received on Weds the Operation Arlington Ridge KA-Bar I had ordered on
Monday. WOW what a great piece! I have shown it to several friends all
have been impressed by it. It is indeed a remarkable knife. Not only one of
beauty but also inspiring and able to extract the memories of times past and
the KA-BAR I carried while "in country". Thanks so much, the price was a
true bargain."
Please bear in mind that this is a limited-edition and has been offered to our members at the "issue
price". You will undoubtedly see it re-sold at much higher prices as the Anniversary and holidays
draw nearer. Details are on our main page. Availability is extremely limited.

"Patriot Hearts":
One of our supporters in Colorado, Major William Coffey, Jr., USAR, has written a forthcoming
book entitled "Patriot Hearts", and has kindly sent me a pre-publication manuscript. This incredible
book is "An anthology of inspirational words from American warriors, veterans and patriots about the
values and sacrifices that keep us free". It contains stories spanning from the American Revolution
through present day; soldiers' letters home (including my brother John); final words of dying heroes;
quotes from famous warriors such as Chesty Puller, Robert E. Lee, Gen. George Patton, LtCol
Travis (of Alamo fame), Theodore Roosevelt and countless others; rarely seen photographs and
drawings, and a wealth of military history. Publication is scheduled for the fall of this year and this
book will be a "must have". I will provide further details later in the year.

Finally, please accept my apologies for duplication of E-mails you received a few weeks ago. There
was an apparent "glitch" in the E-mail system, causing my mails to be "double sent". Although this was
not intentional, I do apologize for any inconvenience or frustration that resulted. I assure you that I
was equally frustrated!
If you do not wish to receive future updates, please advise me and I will promptly remove your name
from our E-mail list.
Keep those ideas and suggestions coming! Thank you.
