Thacker, a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army
during the Vietnam War, armed only with his M-16
rifle, provided cover fire for his withdrawing
troops and then called for friendly artillery fire
on his own position to allow his men more time to
escape. Today, he serves as Chief of the

Administration for the Department of Veterans

Medal of Honor recipients, to speak to children

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 27, 2000 - Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and Vietnam veteran Brian M. Thacker will chat live with visitors to The Virtual Wall on Sunday, July 30, 2000, at 7 p.m. EST, announced Jan C. Scruggs, president and founder of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
